I made this short film during my time at Vancouver Film School. In 2020, I went to a wedding. Despite the happy atmosphere of the event, I was absorbed by the tradition of giving away the bride. The ritual struck me as archaic. Although today, marriages are usually consensual agreements, In the past a groom first asked their father in law for permission. This hyperbolic depiction is combined with a mechanical view of social roles. I tried to make a depiction in which dolls act mechanically, without thought, without emotion, each like the last. This was the first film I've made fully in 3D and I had a lot of fun developing the idea.
The Swamp was a short concept film I wrote and made in a week, narrated by a voice actor named Nate Elms. Creating films is ever a reminder of how much one has to learn. 1/3 was done in Blender before resorting to rough storyboard frames.
